JANUARY,
1856
16 at the Carral to Work. Thursday the 17 Came home. Friday the 18 made
my dog a house. Saturday the 19 at home. Sunday the 20 at meting. Monday
the 21 went on the range to hunt for my Cattel. Tuesday the 22 on the
range. Wednesday the 23 the Same. Thursday the 24 Came home. Friday
the 25 at home. Saturday the 26 at home. Sunday the 27 at meeting. Monday
the 28 at home. Tuesday the 29 my Cows Came home. Wednesday the 30 fixing
to go on the range. Thursday the 31 Went on the range.
FEBRUARY, 1856
Friday the 1 Feb, 1856 on the range. Saturday the 2 Came home. Drove
some cattle as far as hays. Sunday the 3 Went to the quarterly Conference
in the courthouse. Bro Clement spoke to us in the forenoon am Pres.
J. Grant in the afternoon pm. they gave us some very good instruction
bro L. Young spoke in the eavening. Monday
the 4 at home. Tuesday the 5 bad weather at home. Wednesday the 6 the
same. Thursday the 7 went to the fast meeting and had a good time. Friday
the 8 hauled my hay (?) from JD Willrose. Saturday the 9 stormy day.
Went to the courthouse to a meeting to appoint delegates to atend a
convention in LGS (?) S Lake city. Sunday the 10 at meeting. Monday
the 11 Sawing Shingle timber. Tuesday the 12 Making Shingles. Wednesday
the 13 the Same. Thursday the 14 the Same. Friday the 15 the Same. Saturday
the 16 Making Shingles and went to the election. Sunday the 17 at meeting.
Monday the 18 Making Shingles. Tuesday the 19 the Same. Wednesday the
20 helping Daniel Miller make shingles. Thursday the 21 fast day i went
to meeting. Friday the 22 windy day bunching shingles. Saturday the
23 making shingles. Sunday the 24 at meeting. Monday the 25 helping
bro Miller make shingles.
Tuesday the 26 took 32 thousand Shingles to bishop hefs, stormy day.
Wednesday the 27 wind blowing from the east. At home. Thursday the 28
attended fast meeting. Fri the 29 helping Daniel Miller make shingles.
MARCH, 1856
Sat March the 1, 1856 Sawing timber. Sun the 2 at meeting. Mon the 3
at the County Court. Tues the 4 making shingles. Wed the 5 the Same.
Thurs the 6 at fast meeting. Fri the 7 making shingles. Sat the 8 bunching
shingles. Sunday the 9 at meeting. Mon the 10 working at my flour box.
Tues the 11 the Same. Wedn the 12 made a washboard. Thurs the 13 helping
Father make shingles. Fri the 14 the Same. Sat the 15 went to John Bears.
Sun the 16 at meeting. Monday the 17 helping DA Miller make shingles.
Tues the 18 fixing (?) about home. Wednes the 19 at a bee making shingles
making shingles for John Hess. Thurs the 20 went to the city about.

gardens. Sun the 23 at meeting. Monday the 24 sewed some onions and
took my potatoes out of the hole. Tues the 25 ditching. Wedns the 26
helping make (?) for the women that their husbans is on missions. Thurs

the 31 Plowing on my lot.
APRIL, 1856
Tues the 1, 1856 of April. Planting potatoes and beets. Wednes the 2
fixing fence. Thurs the 3 attended fast meeting. Fri the 4 fixing fence.
Sat the 5 helping Father. Sun the 6 Went to the City to atend Conference.
Mon the 7 at Conference. Tues the 8. At Conference and came home. Wednes
the 9 Plowing. Thurs the 10 Plowing. Frid the 11 plowing - went to a
party in the eavning. Sat the 12 plowing. Sun the 13 at meeting. Mon
the 14 raining and i was a plowing. Tues the 15
Plowing. Wed the 16 Plowing and sewing wheat. Thurs the 17 harrowing
in wheat. Fri the 18 Plowing. Sat the 19 roleing my wheat and harrowing.
Sun the 20 attended quarterly Conference at the courthouse. Mon the
21 Plowing. Tues the 22 Plowing. Wednes the 23 Plowing. Thurs the 24
the Same. Fri the 25 harrowing. Sat the 26 Plowing and planting potatoes.

MAY, 1856
Thurs the 1, 1856 of May attended fast meeting. Fri the 2 cleaning out
ditch. Sat the 3 helping father plow. Sun the 4 rainy day at home. Mon
the 5 rainy day fixing my wagon. Tues the 6 Plowed my lot. Wedn the
7 Planting on my lot. Thur the 8 Went to the City
to get my endownments. Fri the 9 got my endowment and was sealed to
Lucy Miller by H.C. Kimball came home. Sat the 10 Planting on my lot.
Sun the
11 at Meeting. Mon the 12 Shearing Sheep for David Hefs. Tues the 13
the Same and planting on my Lot. Wednes the 14 Worked for father. Thurs
the 15 the Same. Fri the 16 Plowing my Corn ground Ebeneezer helping
me. Sat the 17 Planting Corn. Sun the 18 at meeting. Mon the 19 worked
on the road in bears kanion. Tues the 20 ditching. Wednes the 21 Cutting
willows. Thurs the 22 putting willows on my fence. Fri the 23 went in
the kanion and got a load of wood. Sat 24 at the Company drill. Sun
25 at meeting in the forenoon I went to (?) ward in the afternoon. Mon,
Tues, Wednes 26,27,28, working on the water ditch. Thurs 29 went in
the kanion and got a load. Fri 30 howing potatoes for father. Sat 31
plowing and howing potatoes.
JUNE, 1856
Sun, June the 1, 1856 at meeting. Mon. 2 Working on the Water ditch.
Tues 3 working on my lot furrowing my wheat for (?). Wednes 4 ditching,
father started for a (?) county (?). Thurs 5 howing my (?). Fri 6 ditching.

ditching. Sun 8 at meeting. Mon 9 went in the kanion to make shingles.
Tues 10 Making Shingles. Wednes Thurs 11, 12 the Same. Fri 13, at home.
Sat 14 at a regimental parade. Sun 15 at meeting. Mon 16 putting willows
in my fence. Tues, 17 plowing and howing my lot. Wed 18 howing potatoes.
Thurs, Fri, Sat 19, 20, 21 the Same. Sun 22 went in the kanion and got
some sairnes (?) berries in the forenoon and to meeting in the after
noon. Mon the 23 work in the kanion to make shingles. Tues, Wednes,
Thurs, Fri Making Shingles and Came home, 24, 25, 26, 27. Sat 28 Went
in the kanion to tend the Saw mill. Sun 29, Mon 30 the Same.
JULY, 1856
Tues 1, 1856 of July came home. Wednes 2, watering my lot. Thurs 3 went
to meeting. Fri 4 atended a rigamental drill. Sat 5 went in the kanion
and got a load of shingles. Sun 6 at meeting. Mon 7 mowing. Tues 8 watering
my wheat. Weds 9 the Same.Thurs 10 Mowing. Fri 11 the Same. Sat 12 the
Same. Sun 13 at meeting. Mon 14 Mowing. Tues 15 Mowing and plowing my
potatoes. Wednes 16 Went in the kanion and got a load of shingles. Partway
down the kanion and Broak my cart. Thurs 17 went and got the load i
left. Fri 18 hauling hay. Sat 19 the Same. Sun 20 went to meeting. Mon
21 harvesting. Tues 22 mowing. Wednes 23 mowing. Thurs 24 Was at a Celebration
held in this Place. Fri 25 howing my lot. Sat 26. Mending a Cradle in
the fore Noon. Training in the after noon. Sun 27 at meeting. Mon 28
Harvesting. Tues 29 the Same. Wednes 30 the Same. Thurs 31 fixing the
upper rooms of the Court house for a Party at 1 o'clock the Mountain
Rangers.
AUGUST, 1856
Frid 1 of August 1856 harvisting. Sat 2 went in the kanion and got a
load of lumber. Sun 3 went to Sundy School and Meeting. Mon 4 harvesting.
Tues, Wednes, Thurs, 5, 6, 7 harvesting. Fri, Sat, 8, 9, the Same. Sun
10, at Meeting.
Mon 11, Tues 12, Wednes 13, Thurs 14, harvesting. Fri, 15 hauling wheat
for M.D. Hammond. Sat 16 went to meeting in the Court House. Pres B.
Young, H.C. Kimball, J.M. Grant and others were up from the city and
talked above the weber canall. Sun 17 at meeting. Monday 18 Pulling
Wheat and Cutting Sun Flowers. Tues 19 Mowing. Wedn. Thurs, Fri, Sat
20, 21, 22, 23 in the kanion making shingles. Sun 24 at meeting. Mon,
Tues, Wednes, Thurs, Fri, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, in the kanion Making Shingles.
Sat 30 at a company drill. Sun 31 at meeting.
SEPTEMBER, 1856
Mon 1 of Sep, 1856 mowing. Tues 2 Fixing my wagon. Wednes 3 hauling
wheat. Thurs 4, went to meeting. Fri, Sat, 5, 6, hauling wheat. Sun
7 at meeting. Mon 8 hauling Wheat. Tues 9 working on the road in the
kanion. Wednes 10, Thurs 11, Fri 12, Sat 13, hauling wheat. Sun 14,
at meeting. Mon 15, Tues 16 hauling Corn. Wednes 17 Pres. Grant Preached
to us and weighed us and we were found wanting the ward was Baptised
in the after noon. Thurs 18 Preaching Confermations Meeting. Fri 19
Hauling Corn. Sat 20 working in the kanion on the road. Sun 21 at meeting.
Mon 22 helping to dig the foundation of the Bishop Barn. Tues 23 fixing
my cart. Wedns 24 at an Officers Drill. Thurs 25 got my Steers Shod.
Fri 26 went in the kanion and got a log. Sat 27 went to the City. Sun
28 went to meeting. Mon 29 attended a regimental parade. Went in the
kanion and got a load of wood.
OCTOBER, 1856
Wednes 1, 1856 of Oct got a load of wood. Thurs 2 Commenced thrashing
at fathers and the machine broak. Fri. Sat 3, + 4 got wood. Sun 5 at
meeting. Mon 6 thrashing. Tues 7 thrashing. Wednes 8 went in the kanion
and got a load of bark. Thurs 9 the machine Commenced and broak down.
Fri 10 tending the plaster. Sat 11 helping Ebeneezer about starting
on his mishon. Working at a Shed. Sun 12 at meeting. Mon 13 working
on my shed. Tues 14 went in the kanion and got a load of donate wood.
Wednes 15 got a load post timber. Thurs 16 got a load of wood. Friday
17 got a load of Shingles. Sat 18 the Same. Sun 19 at meeting. Mon 20
Stormy day. Tues 21 got a load for the bishop.Wednes 22 Got a Shingle
log. Thurs Clean the Court house. Fri 24 got a load of of wood. Sat
25 at meeting quarterly Conference Commenced here. Sun 26 at meeting.
Mon 27 Laid my hearth. Tues 28 went in the kanion and got a load of
wood. Wednes 29 the Same. Thurs 20 the Same. Fri 31 went to the city.
NOVEMBER, 1856
Sat 1 of November 1856 working at my house. Sun 2 at meeting. Mon 3
working at my house. Tue. 4 went in the kanion and got a load of wood.
Wednes 5 the Same. Thurs 6 Fast day went to Fast Meeting. Fri 7 got
a load of wood. Sat 8 working at home. Sun 9 at meeting in the fore
Noon at home in the afternoon. Mon 10 Thrashing. Tues 11 Wednes 12 Thurs
13 Fri 14 Sat 15 Thrashing Wheat. Sunday 16, at meeting. Mon 17 went
in the kanion and cut a load of Wood. Tues 18 Went + and got the wood.
Wednes 19 fixing my fence + working on the thrashing machine. Thurs
20 working on the road. Fri 21 Snowy Day at home. Sat
22 at 3 oh clock my Wife was delivered of a Daughter receiving for Joseph
Young. Sun 23 at meeting Snowing Considerable at the time. Mon 24 husking
Corn. Tues 25 the Same. Wednes 26 Went to mill. Thurs 27 took the shoes
off my Steers. Fri 28 went up in hays ward and got a Beef and buchardit
[?] my wife took Cold and was pretty Sick. Sat 29 Stormy day at home.
My daughter was blessed by A. Rose + L. J. Gleason and Named Lucy Maria.
Sun 30 went to meeting.
DECEMBER, 1856
Monday 1, 1856 of December Worked at home. Tues 2 at home. Wed 3 Went
on the range + got my bolt. Thursday 4 Went to fast meeting. Fri 5 took
some wheat up to Alen Taylers. Sat 6 Went in the kanion + got a lot
of wood. Sun 7 at home. Mon 8 Story day at home cut up my meet. Tues
9 went to mill. Wedns 10 at home. Stormy day. Thurs 11 fixing to go
to the City. Fri 12 Storming all day at home. Sat 13 Went in the kanion
to break the road the snow from 2 to 4 feet deep on the level. Sun 14
at meeting. Mon 15 to work at home. Tues 16 went to the City + mill.
Wednes 17 Came home. Thurs 19 Snowy day at home. Fri 19 Stormy Day.
Sat 20 at home. Sun 21 at meeting. Mon 22 fixing to go to the City.
Tues 23 Went to the City. Wednes 24 put a shoe on my slead. Thurs 25
Went down to Fathers + took him in dinner. Friday 26 Snowy Day. Making
